Larksfield Place Opens $14 million Assisted Living & Memory Support Residence and Plans to Employ 60

Monday, January 16 2012 6:20 AM

WICHITA, Kan., January 16, 2012 . . . Larksfield Assisted Living and Memory Support residence officially opens on Monday, January 23rd. During the first week of operation, five residents will move in with increments of five or more moving in each week thereafter.

The $14 million free-standing building was completed in fourteen months. Designed by GLMV Architecture, the building consists of 40 Assisted Living apartments and 32 Memory Support units. The building itself is over 90,000 square feet with average unit size in the Assisted Living of 850 square feet for a one bedroom apartment and 1200 square feet for a two bedroom apartment. The Memory Support units are 330 square feet, designed for single occupancy. In addition to the living units, the building contains an ice cream/soda shop, a fitness center, private dining, spas, a two story fire place and meeting and auditorium space for resident functions. Altman-Charter Company is the General Contractor for the project.

While not the first to open on the east/northeast side of town, Larksfield’s project is considerably larger in scope and amenities. As part of the overall Larksfield continuum of services, the Assisted Living and Memory Support addition will incorporate the level of services and amenities currently available to Larksfield residents such as home health, on-site therapies, physician services, fitness specialists and clubs, beautician services and access to Larksfield’s nursing home. Based on demand and the rate of unit commitments, Larksfield’s Assisted Living and Memory Support is “projecting full occupancy by early summer”, according to Tammy Flaming, Marketing Director.

“There is no doubt that this product is in demand in this market, particularly as we have it configured and priced”, said Reg Hislop III, Larksfield CEO. “We wanted to create a superb environment that featured the outstanding care and services of Larksfield but at a price point for residents that wasn’t at the top of the market. Based on our present demand, I believe we have clearly succeeded”, said Hislop.

Larksfield Assisted Living and Memory Support is owned and operated by Larksfield Place Retirement Communities, Inc., a Wichita non-profit organization. Larksfield employs 270 individuals. A total of 60 new staff positions were created with the opening of the Assisted Living/Memory Support project. When fully occupied, Larksfield will provide care to nearly 400 residents in its Independent, Health Care and Assisted Living facilities.

There will be an opportunity to meet the staff and see the residences at an Open House Sunday, January 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
