Andrew Trechak is on the faculty at Wichita State University and currently serves as Director of Keyboard studies. He has degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory and Stony Brook University.  He received his Doctorate from the University of Texas in Austin, writing a treatise on the rhythmic style found in performances of Chopin’s music in early recordings.  While in high school he also had influential studies at the Juilliard Preparatory and Extension Divisions in piano and conducting.  His teachers include John Owings, Martin Canin and William Race.  He was president of the Wichita Piano Teacher’s League in 1988.   He is a dedicated ambassador for the cause of great music and has given many concerts for young people.  He launched his own innovative concert-show format called “Piano Magic” which combines stage magic with the performance of serious classics.  He has performed young people’s concerts many times throughout the Midwest for which he received the Excellence in Special Fine Arts Endeavors.  “Piano playing is a form of what may be called “dynamic meditation” where the great classics are without equal in their ability to soothe, move, and endlessly fascinate. My somewhat wayward approach to interpretation seeks to coax out the ever-renewed freshness of the classical repertoire.”
