Wichita Women Artists Exhibition Continues Through Nov. 29
Thursday, November 29 2018
Originally known as the Painting of the Month Club, Wichita Women Artists was founded in 1950, and has been in continuous existence since. The name was changed to Wichita Women Artists in 1967 to be inclusive of artists working in all media. Their stated purpose is to encourage members' creative growth and to acquaint a larger cross-section of Wichita with original art created in the Wichita area. Throughout the year, the group shows work in galleries and museums. Monthly meetings provide an encouraging atmosphere for creative endeavors, constructive critiques by peers, and for sharing art news and members' shows. Wichita Women Artists annually provides awards to winners in the Regional Scholastic Art Awards, Wichita Garden Show, and the Kansas Watercolor Show.
For those interested in joining the WWA, prospective members must be sponsored by three active members, submit five pieces of their original art and a background resume, and receive affirmative votes by a majority of the membership. Membership is limited to forty artists who reside in Kansas, plus honorary members who have been members for 25 years or longer, in addition to inactive members who wish to continue their association with the group but find they cannot currently fulfill their membership obligations.
