The Kansas Art Guild’s goal and purpose is not for profit, but to carry out educational programs for the benefit of its members and to offer encouragement in the arts to all ages. The Guild began at Friends University under the name The Friends Community Art Guild. It was formed in 1977 to provide a place for artists to meet and share ideas. As it grew, it moved to the Wichita Art Museum and they changed their name to the Community Art Guild. When the Wichita Art Museum underwent renovation, the Guild moved to the Wichita Center for the Arts. In the summer of 1993, members voted to change the name to the Kansas Art Guild, Inc. since many of its members live miles outside of the Wichita area. The Guild fulfills their goal of promoting art and artists through monthly meetings and exhibitions at several locations in the area throughout the year. For more information, you are welcome to visit any of their regular meetings on the first Tuesday of each month, 1:00PM at the Mark Arts, 316-634-2787.
