Curtis Newby has been interested in art since he was a child growing up in the Flint Hill area of Kansas hence his love of landscapes. He received a B.A. in Art from Kansas State University in 1964. After graduation, he worked as a commercial artist and illustrator for a few years then worked as a city planner for the Wichita Sedgwick County Planning Department. From 1978-1990, he was an associate Pastor at Wichita Christian Center. In 1990 Curtis shifted gears once again and taught private art lessons. In 1997 he became a founding member of the Market Place Gallery which became the Mead Street Gallery in old town. His watercolor, pastel, and oil paintings are included in public and private collections throughout the world. His fascination with atmosphere and light is beautifully expressed in his landscapes. Curtis currently is a member of Kansas Art Guild and Kansas Academy Of Oil Painters. Over the years his art work has won several awards in local and regional art shows.
