The Tallgrass Prairie Press Printmakers, based at the MarkArt Art Center, is an organization of local artists who make hand pulled prints and are students of Doug Billings, its founder and director. Some of the artists include Joel Blessant, Janet Bradbury, Susan Burdick, Penny Caitlin, Janet Fisher, Patt Gateley, Sigmond Jacob, James Kandt, and Marcia Scurfield. Their work spans a wide range of print techniques: stone lithographs, polyplate lithographs, solar plate intaglio, copper plate intaglio, linoleum block prints, collagraphs, drypoint intaglio, and monoprints.
Doug Billings has been teaching printmaking at MarkArts (formerly the Wichita Center for the Arts) since 2000. He belongs to several National Print organizations: the SAGA (Society for American Graphic Artists), the American Color Print Society, the Boston Printmakers, the Print Consortium and the American Print Alliance. Locally, he is a former member and President of the Artist Guild of Wichita and a member of Gallery XII, the most successful Artist Cooperative gallery in the history of Kansas which will be celebrating their 40th Anniversary this Year.
