“There is no end to the wonderful life stories you will hear.” – Don & Pat Scott, residents since 2009
Every resident at Larksfield Place has a story. Some, such as the CEO of a major company, might be well known. But equally as important are the stories not often shared with the public: stories of war and peace, of teachers and healers, of the Civil Rights struggle and world events…the stories of raising a family.
Over the past decade, the stories of some 70 Larksfield Place residents have been told, thanks to I, Witness to History. Established in 1996, the program has a mission to preserve, publish and promote the stories of our elders. They enrich the archives of the Kansas State Historical Library and in Special Collections at the Wichita State University Ablah Library. These histories tell us about how we were, where we’ve gone, and how we might do better in the future.
Collecting these precious stories brings generations together; students from Wichita State University conduct interviews and young people from Collegiate Middle School have paired up with Senior Mentors in special programs.
